📖 Details
Located in Asagaya, Suginami Ward, Tokyo, the shrine is dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami. It is said that Yamato Takeru no Mikoto rested in Asagaya on his return journey from the eastern expedition, and later, the local people built the "Asagaya Shinmeigu" to commemorate his military achievements.
Asagaya Shinmeigu is most famous for its "Hachinanjo," a ritual that dispels various disasters and misfortunes in the present world, and it is the only shrine in Japan that holds the "Hachinanjo" ceremony. Additionally, the "Kami Musubi" lace bracelet amulet and the "Apple Leather Amulet," made from recycled apple materials, are among the many unique offerings that are also very popular.
The shrine's expansive grounds, covering 3,000 tsubo, are lush and ideal for leisurely strolls. Within the premises, there is a Noh theater that frequently hosts the "Asagaya Bayashi," an intangible cultural asset of the area, along with various traditional performances. This place also serves as a venue for antique markets, plant fairs, and jazz concerts organized by Suginami Ward, becoming a hub for local community activities.
