📖 Biwa Lake Steamship Takashima Cruise

📝 Introduction

Take a comfortable cruise to visit the mysterious islands on Lake Biwa.

📖 Details

Located in the northern part of Lake Biwa, the approximately 2-kilometer-long Chikubushima has been a site of spiritual significance for people since ancient times. You can take a comfortable sightseeing boat to reach Chikubushima, which is inaccessible by train or on foot. Ferries to Chikubushima depart from Nagahama Port on the eastern shore and from Omihachiman Port on the western shore. The area around Omihachiman Port features retro streets that preserve the atmosphere of a former post town, while Nagahama Port has the ambiance of a once-thriving castle town, making sightseeing around the ports enjoyable. The boat ride takes about 25 to 30 minutes to reach Chikubushima. You can enjoy the refreshing breeze from the lake on the spacious deck while admiring the magnificent views of Lake Biwa. In addition to the round-trip route, there is also the "Biwa Lake Cross Route" that traverses the lake from east to west. Both docks are within walking distance from the train stations, allowing you to choose your preferred route based on your travel plans.

⭐ Highlights

You can reach Takashima Island from both Kōmitsu Port and Nagahama Port. Takashima Island is home to important cultural heritage and national treasures, and the entire island can be considered an object of worship. There are also many places worth visiting around the ports.
