⛩️ Chiba Shrine

The main deity of Chiba Shrine is Hokushin Myoken Sonsei, also known as "Ame no Minakanushi no Okami." This deity is responsible for dispelling diseases, accidents, and injuries, representing the "calamities," and is the god of the North Star, which brings good fortune. Commonly referred to as "Myoken God," this deity is well-known among the local population, and not only residents of the prefecture come to pray for protection and good luck, but visitors from all over the country also pay their respects. Chiba Shrine was established in the second year of the Chōhō era (1000 AD). It originated from a temple (a residence for monks) built by the prominent warrior Taira no Tadakatsu during the mid-Heian period. Since 1127 (the second year of Daiji), the "Myoken Grand Festival" has been held annually without interruption, receiving deep respect from the public. The Myoken Grand Festival lasts for a week (from August 16 to 22 each year), and it is said that the name "One Word Myoken Grand Festival" comes from the belief that any wish spoken during the festival will surely be fulfilled. The impressive shrine hall of Chiba Shrine features worship halls on both the first and second floors, making it a rare multi-story shrine. The original building was destroyed during air raids in wartime and was rebuilt in modern times. Within the grounds, there is the Tenba Tenjin, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, and the famous Enju Water, known for fulfilling wishes, where visitors can draw sacred water. The protective amulets (omamori) at Chiba Shrine include the Chie Mamoru, which prevents dementia, and all amulets are adorned with star patterns related to the North Star deity, such as the Sanko pattern and the Kyūyō pattern.

Worshipped by the people and commonly known as "Myoken God," the North Star Myoken Zunsei King. The "Myoken Grand Festival," which has been held continuously since 1127, is well-known. The first and second floors each have a worship hall, making it a rare multi-story shrine.
