About Daimaru Shinsaibashi Store
A long-established department store in Shinsaibashi that emphasizes tradition while incorporating new elements.
Details
Facing the main street of Osaka, Midosuji, the Daimaru Shinsaibashi store has a history of nearly 300 years and is considered the face of Shinsaibashi, beloved by the people of Osaka. After undergoing a major renovation for the first time in 86 years, it reopened in 2019. The exterior and interior design retained elements from the old main building, crafted by the renowned architect William Merrell Vories from the Meiji to Showa periods, creating a space that harmonizes modern and traditional styles.
The main building, featuring over 300 stores, is characterized by its diverse floor layout, which redefines the conventional concept of department stores. The 10th-floor restaurant street hosts several famous establishments that showcase Japan's rich culinary culture. The 9th floor includes a VIP room exclusively for foreign tourists and a duty-free application counter, along with shops related to Japanese pop culture, such as manga and games, which are highly recognized abroad.
Additionally, the B2 food street, "Shinsaibashi Gourmet Plaza," is directly connected to Shinsaibashi Station, making it very convenient, and it gathers a variety of local delicacies unique to Osaka, the city of gourmet food.
