🏨 Eiheiji Shinzen Ryokan - Hashikurakan

Located next to Eiheiji, this accommodation opened in 2019. For those who feel that simply visiting Eiheiji is not enough, Hakujukan is the best choice for lodging. It not only offers hotel-like comfort and services but also unique experiences such as zazen (seated meditation), morning sutra chanting, rituals, and copying sutras, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the world of Zen. In the restaurant, guests can enjoy shojin ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) and taste the famous sake from Echizen. Embracing the essence of Zen, guests can enjoy a healing experience through what is known as "Echizen hospitality," refreshing both body and mind. Certified as a "Zen Hospitality Staff" by the head temple Eiheiji, they serve as a bridge between the accommodation and the temple, kindly providing information about the lodging to ensure that even first-time visitors to Zen feel at ease. They can also help select suitable options from various Zen experience programs for each guest. Whether visiting Eiheiji for worship or enjoying shopping and food in the nearby shopping street, guests can freely and comfortably spend their time during their stay. There are a total of 18 guest rooms, each spacious at over 40 square meters, equipped with comfortable restrooms and shower facilities. The traditional beauty unique to the Echizen region can be seen everywhere, with features such as "Echizen ware" washbasins and decorations made from "Echizen washi" (Japanese paper).

There are no specific dress codes for visiting 永平寺 (Eiheiji), but please avoid wearing clothing that suggests killing or is overly revealing. The guest rooms are equipped with a television, refrigerator, electric kettle, safe, and hairdryer. You can enjoy deep-fried wheat gluten, sesame tofu, and local cuisine, which are unique to 福井 (Fukui) and represent refined vegetarian dishes.
