HOTEL THE MITSUI KYOTO, located in front of the UNESCO World Heritage site Nijo Castle, is a hotel built on the former site of the Mitsui family's Edo-period main residence. While preserving many historical remnants such as the welcoming gate, landscape stones, and lanterns, renowned designers and artists have collaborated to create a modern-style leisure space, transforming a historical building into a beautifully luxurious hotel.
The architects employed modern Miyadukuri techniques (Miyadukuri refers to carpenters who build shrines and temples) to restore and reconstruct the "Kajiimiya Gate," built in 1703, as the symbolic entrance of the hotel. Upon passing through the gate, guests are greeted by a large garden designed by the famous landscape designer Toshiaki Miyagi. Spanning approximately 1,300 square meters, the garden perfectly integrates the old Mitsui residence and garden, showcasing a unique craftsmanship that cleverly incorporates the changing scenery of the four seasons.
The hotel features 161 guest rooms, including 22 suites, all designed by renowned interior designer Andrรฉ Fu. Among them are the "Nijo Suite," which offers a panoramic view of Nijo Castle from large windows, and the "Onsen Suite," where guests can enjoy an outdoor hot spring within the room, allowing travelers to indulge in an extraordinary vacation experience in the luxurious atmosphere created by the hotel.
The hotel's restaurants and bars are equally luxurious. There is the teppanyaki restaurant "TOKI," the Italian restaurant "FORNI," and the garden-view cafรฉ "THE GARDEN BAR," which includes a bar. These dining options are spread around the garden, allowing guests to enjoy fine food and drinks while appreciating the beautiful seasonal scenery.
Additionally, the hotel offers a range of therapeutic facilities to relieve travel fatigue. These include a fully private hot spring, a swimming pool using natural hot spring water, and a spa center offering an original care menu.
