🏨 Ichijōin

With a history of over 110 years since its establishment during the Heian period, this temple is a sub-temple of the head temple Kongo Sanji. Located in the central area of Mount Koya, major attractions such as Kongo Sanji and Danjo Garan are within walking distance, making it easily accessible. The temple's unique charm and meticulous service comparable to top-tier accommodations have made it extremely popular among the 52 lodgings in Mount Koya. It offers a variety of room types, ranging from simple single rooms to luxuriously decorated VIP suites. In January 2023, the two-story main building underwent renovations, transforming the original 10 guest rooms into four spacious rooms. All guest rooms feature a bedroom and a bathroom with a cypress wood bathtub, large windows overlooking the garden, and seating areas with tables and chairs, each with its own unique characteristics. Meals are provided in the form of "Furemai cuisine," which is a traditional Koya-san vegetarian meal that emphasizes luxury and creativity, using a large amount of seasonal ingredients and beautifully presented. There is also a large public bath heated with spring water from Mount Koya, offering a relaxing and therapeutic bathing experience. During your stay, you can participate in activities such as copying sutras, painting Buddhist images, and the unique meditation method of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism known as "Ajikan." Before breakfast, you can join the monks for morning prayers. Before checking out, you can enjoy the exquisite karesansui (dry landscape) and spring water gardens, as well as admire the temple's Buddhist paintings and fusuma (sliding door) paintings.
