📖 Details

Kai Tamatsukuri (formerly known as Kai Izumo) is a ryokan located in the Tamatsukuri Onsen area of Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, where all guest rooms come with private open-air baths. Guests can fully enjoy the hot spring known as "natural skincare water," which has been praised as a beauty bath in the "Izumo no Kuni Fudoki" dating back 1300 years. The ryokan features 24 pure Japanese-style guest rooms, each equipped with open-air baths made from cypress wood or Shigaraki pottery, along with en-suite facilities. The large public bath includes a uniquely designed hot spring outlet resembling a shrine, adding to its charm. Listening to the onsen expert introduce the history, mineral characteristics, and effective bathing methods of Tamatsukuri Onsen in the "Onsen Iroha" is also very interesting. Dinner offers a kaiseki meal where guests can savor the delicious seafood of the San'in region, including Matsuba crab and shellfish. During the spring and summer, there is a popular dish called "Shijimi Soup Beef Shabu-Shabu," made with large clams; in winter, guests can enjoy "Crab No Hounou Steamed," where fresh Matsuba crab is sandwiched between cedar boards and wrapped in washi paper for steaming, as well as crab meat sukiyaki cooked in a specially ordered Sekishu tile pot. Breakfast features traditional Japanese dishes such as "Chinju," a local cuisine passed down from Izumo Taisha. During the stay, guests can participate in various interesting experiential activities. For example, tasting various specialty sake from Shimane, the birthplace of sake, at the "Sake BAR," experiencing the tea ceremony in a tea room to feel the culture of Matsue, and watching the breathtaking traditional Shimane performing arts dance "Iwami Kagura."
