🏨 Mokuzon Onsen, Okutouza, Beikake Onsen

📝 Introduction

At the hidden hot spring inn, enjoy the rare hot spring known for being "eye-friendly" with its flowing source water.

📖 Details

Beikake Onsen has been in operation for 700 years, renowned since the Edo period for its treatment of eye ailments. Surrounded by the Okutakuzawa Mountain Range, as you continue along the lush slopes of Okutakuzawa, you will encounter a traditional inn that feels like a journey through time—this is "Moku Onsen Okutakuzawa Beikake Onsen." Beikake Onsen is known as the "hot spring that cares for your eyes," and in ancient times, it was even sold as an eye medicine. It is said to be effective for symptoms such as cataracts, dry eyes, and eye fatigue, offering two types of heated baths at 37°C and 42°C, with the 37°C mildly warm spring allowing for long soaks. There is also a unique treatment called "eye hot spring therapy," where you can scoop the warm spring water and soak your eyes in it for cleansing—definitely worth a try. Of course, there are also outdoor baths filled with natural charm, allowing you to relax in the embrace of nature. The guest rooms are primarily located in the main wooden building constructed in the 2nd year of the Meiji era (1896), along with an entrance building and annex. All rooms exude a warm wooden ambiance, providing a leisurely and relaxing experience in a Japanese-style space. The anticipated meals feature Niigata Koshihikari rice sourced from contracted farms, along with a variety of dishes made from seasonal ingredients, complemented by several local sake from the rice-producing city of Niigata. Here, you can enjoy the renowned "Beikake Onsen" and seasonal delicacies, healing both body and mind.
