🏨 New Grand Hotel

The New Grand Hotel is a representative of modern European-style hotels in Japan, located directly across from the famous seaside spot "Yamashita Park," and is a landmark of the port city of Yokohama. It consists of the main building, which opened in 1927 as a symbol of recovery from the earthquake, and an 18-story tower completed in 1991, offering stunning views. Upon entering the main building's front door, one cannot help but gasp in admiration. A large staircase made of beige tiles stands before you, covered with a brilliant blue carpet known as "New Grand Blue." The elevator lobby above the staircase features a clock with an arched decoration and a fabric depicting celestial maidens, which catches the eye. The old lobby showcases highlights such as chairs made from "Yokohama furniture," which blends traditional Japanese palace woodworking techniques with Western design. Royal family members, Charlie Chaplin, Babe Ruth, and other world-renowned figures have visited, and guests can stay in Suite 315, which was once occupied by General MacArthur. Additionally, the restaurant that created Japanese-style baked rice, Neapolitan pasta, and pudding buffet is also a prestigious establishment that has produced many renowned chefs.
