Takahashi Seika, a long-established confectionery company in Asahikawa, was founded in 1917. The first owner, Mr. Takahashi, learned how to make Nagasaki cakes in Nagasaki and studied the production of wagashi and mochi in Honshu before opening the business in Asahikawa. It is said that anyone from Asahikawa or Hokkaido has tried Takahashi Seika's classic product, the "Vitamin Nagasaki Cake." At that time, in order to address post-war food shortages and poor business conditions, they aimed to develop a "cheap and highly nutritious product," leading to the creation of the Vitamin Nagasaki Cake. This cake is characterized by a higher amount of flour compared to regular Nagasaki cakes, and it includes added vitamins B1 and B2. Beloved by the people of Hokkaido, this Vitamin Nagasaki Cake retains a soft texture but is slightly drier. This is a result of efforts to extend its shelf life by reducing moisture content; this texture and subtle sweetness have become a cherished taste in the memories of the locals.

The first store owner established a confectionery shop in Taisho 6 (1917) after learning to make Nagasaki cakes in Nagasaki. The products developed to address post-war food shortages and poor business conditions are characterized by their vitamin content. The subtle sweetness and unique texture are flavors remembered by the people of Hokkaido, and they have been loved for over a hundred years.
