📖 Details
Tsu Castle Ruins (Tsu Castle Park) is located in the center of Tsu City, Mie Prefecture. Once a bustling castle town, it has now become a beautiful park beloved by the citizens, making it a great place for walking and relaxation.
Tsu Castle was built in 1580 by Nobunaga Oda's younger brother, Nobukiyo, a renowned warlord of the Sengoku period. It was later extensively renovated by the castle-building master, Tōdō Takatora. Visitors can admire the remains of the tenshu (main keep) and turret platforms, as well as stone walls from various periods ranging from the Sengoku era to the Meiji period.
The park features a serene Japanese garden alongside a magnificent Western-style garden, showcasing different charming scenery with the changing seasons. In particular, during spring, the contrast between the moss-covered stone walls and the cherry blossoms is exceptionally beautiful, making it a famous cherry blossom viewing spot in Tsu City. Additionally, the hydrangeas in early summer and the autumn foliage are also among the park's seasonal attractions.
Moreover, there is a statue of Tōdō Takatora on horseback within the park, allowing visitors to glimpse the grandeur of this great castle builder. Don't forget to take photos during your visit!
