🛍️ Horikawa New Culture BLDG

A complex facility created by "Ōgaki Shoten," which has been established in Kyoto for over 80 years. The Horikawa New Culture BLDG, which opened in 2021, is located on the site of the former "Horikawa Danchi," which gained attention in the 1940s (Showa 20s) as Japan's first integrated hotel and residence. With the theme of "Injecting rich elements into the life of Horikawa. A 'cultural platform' extending from daily life," the goal is to create a space that promotes local cultural and artistic exchanges. On the first floor, Ōgaki Shoten operates with the philosophy of "continuing to be a bookstore needed by the community," displaying approximately 35,000 general books and high-quality publications such as ZINEs. In one corner, the printing workshop "Shōkōdō" provides services for those looking to print art books or self-publish. The second floor features the gallery "NEUTRAL," which hosts various planned exhibitions regardless of genre or age. In addition to art activities, it also serves as a venue for live music performances and other events. The building also includes a café with a roasting room, where visitors can relax in a spacious environment while enjoying a cup of freshly roasted coffee.

The former site of the "Horikawa Danchi," which received significant attention in the 20th year of the Showa era. It is managed by the long-established bookstore "Ogaki Shoten," based in Kyoto. This is a space where you can read books, create books, and display books. Throughout the building, you can encounter works of art. The attached café offers house-roasted coffee.
