Based on the concept of "staying, dining, drinking, and shopping on the street," the "Shopping Street Hotel" has been renovated from seven traditional townhouses located in the city center of Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, all over a hundred years old. In 2016, Mr. Taniguchi, the owner of Taniguchi Construction, a local company in Ryuo Town, Shiga Prefecture, which specializes in custom wooden houses, wanted to preserve the townhouses of Otsu. He discussed this idea with Mr. Iwasa, the founder of the magazine publisher "Jiyujin," who also operates the ryokan "Satoyama Jujo" in Niigata and Minami-Uonuma. This exchange led to the birth of the "Shopping Street Hotel."
The reception building "Omiya" and the guest-only lounge "Chaya" both face the old Tokaido road, with a total of eight guest rooms between the two buildings. The other five buildings are available for exclusive rental, with "Maruya," "Manya," and "Suzuya" facing the arcade street, immersing guests in the feel of a living shopping street.
Additionally, each guest room is equipped with top-tier brands of tables and chairs, such as ARNE JACOBSEN and FINN JUHL, exuding a luxurious atmosphere in tranquility. Since the concept is "living in the shopping street," the accommodation is primarily a simple lodging plan. Dinner can be enjoyed at dining establishments within the shopping street, while breakfast can be taken at "Omiya" (reservation required).
