🏨 Iwaso
🎨 Hotel Gallery
📝 Introduction
Founded in 1854, it is a inn that has witnessed the history of Miyajima from the late Edo period to the present.
📖 Details
The historic ryokan Iwaso is located within the "Kokuritsu Momijidani Park," surrounded by the nature at the foot of Mount Misen. In addition to the standalone "Bekkan," which was completed from the Taisho era to the Showa era, there is also the main building and the new building, allowing guests to choose according to their preferences.
The independent building "Bekkan" features charming rooms that have hosted royalty, business leaders, and cultural figures. The main building, constructed in the early Showa period, has uniquely decorated rooms, and due to its special location, guests can hear the sound of the Momijigawa River flowing. The five-story new building, made of reinforced concrete, offers views of Momijidani and the Seto Inland Sea from every room, boasting a prime geographical location.
In the ryokan's open-air bath, guests may encounter the sika deer wandering in the forest. The soothing sound of the babbling brook heals the soul, and at night, one can gaze at the primitive forest illuminated by lights, leisurely enjoying the pleasures of the hot springs (there are few hot springs in the Miyajima area, and Iwaso is one of the few ryokans with hot springs in this region).
Notable figures who have stayed at this historic ryokan include royalty, such as Emperor Showa, and the current Emperor and Empress during their time as Crown Prince and Princess, as well as prominent individuals like Asano Nagakatsu, former lord of Hiroshima, Saito Mokichi, Yoshikawa Eiji, Yamamoto Isoroku, Kishi Nobusuke, Ikebana Shotaro, Uno Chiyo, and Koizumi Junichiro.
