🏨 Kibune Ugendā

📝 Introduction

A renowned restaurant in Kibune, where you can enjoy summer riverbed cuisine by the clear stream and famous hot pot dishes in winter.

📖 Details

The owner served as the head priest of Kifune Shrine for many years and opened the ryokan "Ugentā" in 1962 (Showa 27). It is one of the most representative establishments that offers meals on a riverbed, set on the Kifune River, one of the sources of the Kamo River, and is particularly popular among those seeking a cool retreat in the summer. The riverbed seating is open from May to the end of September, allowing guests to experience the refreshing "coolness" brought by the gentle flow of the river and the cool air, making it a natural air conditioner. The kaiseki meals for lunch and dinner feature dishes made with a large variety of Kyoto's unique ingredients, including sea eel and tofu skin. On rainy days or when the river water level rises, dining will be moved indoors to table seating or tatami mat seating. In winter, the restaurant offers its original "Kiseikon Nabe," a hot pot made with broth simmered from soft-shelled turtle, along with botan meat (pork) and vegetables, finishing with a porridge made from the remaining broth. Other hot pot options include duck hot pot and botan hot pot. There are two spacious guest rooms, one Western-style and one Japanese-style. Both rooms are designed as duplexes, featuring an outdoor cypress bath on the second floor, allowing guests to enjoy relaxing moments surrounded by lush nature.
