🛍️ Kyoto Porta

📝 Introduction

A large shopping center located at the gateway to the international tourist city of Kyoto.

📖 Details

Opened about 40 years ago, "Kyoto Station Underground Shopping Street Porta" was the first underground shopping street in Kyoto. In 2023, it was integrated into "Kyoto Station Building Specialty Store Street The CUBE." Today, it has become a large shopping center that aligns with the international tourism city of Kyoto. There are more than 220 shops in total, offering a wide variety of stores ranging from gourmet food, clothing, beauty products, and groceries to souvenirs. The popularity of gourmet restaurants is particularly high, including traditional 京料理 (Kyoto cuisine), long-established eel restaurants, and numerous casual dining options such as omurice, udon, conveyor belt sushi, and ramen. If you're looking to purchase souvenirs, it is recommended to exit from the west gate of JR Kyoto Station and head to the south side of the 2nd floor's north-south passage to "Kyoto Famous Sweets and Dishes - 亰 (Kyo)." This area gathers about 30 shops, featuring a rich selection of Japanese and Western-style desserts, and a specialty store for pickles is also quite popular. You can also conveniently visit "Specialty Street Kyo Komachi" located to the left after exiting the central ticket gate of JR Kyoto Station, where you can find a variety of representative Kyoto specialties all in one place.
