📖 Details
The "Ōmagari Fireworks" has a history of over a hundred years and is renowned as one of the "Three Great Fireworks Festivals of Japan." It is said to have originated from a fireworks display during the festivities at the "Ōmagari Suwa Shrine" in the 43rd year of the Meiji era (1910), and it now represents a summer tradition in Akita Prefecture.
The official name of the Ōmagari Fireworks is "National Fireworks Competition Ōmagari Fireworks." During the event, selected fireworks artists from across the country gather to compete for the title of Japan's best with their spectacular displays. In between competitions, "officially provided fireworks" are launched, which are grand pieces that take a year to complete. These rapid-fire displays, synchronized with music, create a magnificent spectacle that attracts many visitors from afar. Each year, approximately 700,000 tourists from both domestic and international locations flock to the event. The atmosphere during the fireworks festival is bustling, and traffic congestion in the city continues late into the night after the event concludes.
In addition to the summer festival, there are seasonal events such as the "Spring Chapter," showcasing world and Japanese fireworks artistry, and the meticulously designed "Autumn Chapter," allowing people to experience the charm of fireworks throughout the year.
