🏨 Matsuzakaya Main Store

📝 Introduction

Enjoy famous hot springs and delicious food in a ryokan that exudes a warm Japanese atmosphere.

📖 Details

Established in the second year of the Kan'ei era (1662), this long-standing hot spring inn has a rich history. During the Meiji period, it was a meeting place for Kido Takayoshi and Saigo Takamori, and it has been favored by many literary figures. The extensive grounds cover 4,000 tsubo and feature five uniquely styled buildings, 11 guest rooms with open-air baths, and five private hot spring rooms. The inn boasts its own source of hot spring water, producing 200 liters per minute, rich in three types of skin-beneficial minerals: "sulfur spring," "sulfate spring," and "bicarbonate spring," which is quite rare. Guests can enjoy 100% pure hot spring water that is not mixed, heated, or recycled. In 2023, the large public bath underwent significant renovations, featuring a stylish wood grain design that harmonizes with the natural beauty of Hakone, along with lockers for storing slippers. Dinner features a "Shukuba Kaiseki," inspired by the meals enjoyed by travelers visiting Hakone in the past. The rich and delicious dishes, made with a variety of seasonal ingredients, provide a relaxing experience. Breakfast offers a "Traveler's Breakfast," allowing guests to savor a modern take on the traditional breakfast of the post town.
