📜 Product Details

MISUZU candy is a dried jelly with a history of 100 years from Nagano Prefecture. It is made by cooking ripe domestic fruits with agar, fine sugar, and syrup. After cooling and solidifying, it is cut into pieces and wrapped in rice paper, then further dried. Due to the drying and solidifying process, it has a longer shelf life. The product comes in six flavors: apricot, plum, white peach, grape, sanbokan (三宝柑), and apple, all with a rich jam-like flavor. It is very similar in taste to the traditional Niigata candy called "Oniame," which is made with syrup and agar. MISUZU candy insists on not using any fragrances or colorings, and each piece is handcrafted by artisans. The name MISUZU (Japanese: みすゞ) comes from a pillow word used in Shinano Province (ancient Nagano). It first appeared in two poems written by Kume Zenji and Ishikawa Rōjo in the "Manyōshū" (万葉集) (Note: A pillow word is a rhetorical device in Japanese poetry used to modify or adjust syllables before specific words). MISUZU candy is available in two packaging styles: glassine paper and Japanese paper, with a wide variety of capacity options, making it a great choice for personal use or as gifts for friends and family. In addition to the main store in Ueda City, where MISUZU candy originated, it is also sold at the "MIDORI Nagano" store in the JR Nagano Station building and many department stores within Nagano Prefecture.
