About Naramachiya Waka-iro Bettei

A lodging immersed in the rustic charm of Naramachi, where you can savor delicious cuisine and quietly appreciate beautiful scenery.

Details

Located at the northern end of "Nara Park," in the area where the "Todai-ji" Great Buddha Hall is situated, this is a ryokan filled with the rustic charm of traditional Naramachi townhouses. After passing through the stone-paved entrance, guests are greeted by a building featuring unique spaces such as a sunken floor (doma) and high ceilings. The ryokan has a total of 12 guest rooms, each with its own distinct style and decor. The primary offerings are Japanese-style rooms that exude the fragrance of tatami mats, along with various options including Western-style rooms with beds. All guest rooms are equipped with cypress wood baths or open-air baths, which are a major attraction of the ryokan. Additionally, the top floor features a large public bath with a view, where guests can enjoy the magnificent eaves of the Todai-ji Great Buddha Hall and the beautiful scenery of "Wakakusa Mountain." It is said that this is the only place in Nara where one can enjoy such a breathtaking view from the bath. The proud dinner service features "Yamato Kaiseki Ryori," which emphasizes carefully selected ingredients, menus, tableware, and presentation, showcasing the craftsmanship and aesthetics of the chefs. Among the popular dishes is the seasonal kamameshi (rice cooked in a pot), which has garnered a loyal following. For breakfast, guests can enjoy "Chagayu," a local Nara dish beloved by the locals, which can be paired with a traditional Japanese set meal.
