🏨 Sahara Merchant Town Hotel NIPPONIA
🎨 Hotel Gallery
📝 Introduction
A dispersed hotel where you can enjoy the authentic charm of Little Edo.
📖 Details
Once prosperous due to its developed water transport, Sawara still retains the streetscapes of the Edo period. The historical landscape along the Onogawa River has been recognized and was designated in 1996 as the first National Important Traditional Building Preservation Area in the Kanto region.
The Sawara Merchant Town Hotel NIPPONIA views the entire Sawara area as a single accommodation facility, transforming three historical buildings, each over a hundred years old, into stylish lodging. Surrounded by scenery that feels like a journey back to the Edo period, the guest rooms cleverly incorporate modern design elements, providing a comfortable space for a pleasant stay.
The "Sake Brewery Restaurant," which has been renovated from an Edo period sake brewery, offers high-quality local ingredients, including agricultural, seafood, and livestock products. The cuisine is based on French cooking, utilizing soy sauce, miso, and koji to create "fermented French dishes," which pair perfectly with the sake delivered directly from the brewery.
Strolling through the streets of Sawara allows one to experience the nostalgic atmosphere of Little Edo. There are exclusive packages for overnight guests that include a visit to the historic sake brewery "Tōkun Sake Brewery," established in the 8th year of the Bunsei era (1825), and a formal worship at "Katori Shrine," one of only three shrines in Japan alongside Ise Jingu and Kashima Jingu that dates back to the Edo period. During the visit, the shrine priest will introduce the grounds and the treasure house, allowing guests to learn about the 2,600-year history, providing an experience that goes beyond simple worship.
