Koshiji no Yado Takashimaya was once a resting place for Emperor Meiji and is a famous ryokan in Niigata. The ryokan is located in Iwamuro Onsen, an ancient hot spring developed in the 3rd year of the Shōtoku era (1713). It is not far from Yahiko Shrine and prospered as a hot spring area along the Hokuriku Highway. It is also well-known for having been visited by the famous monk and singer Ryōkan.
The main building, a farmhouse constructed during the Edo period, has a history of 260 years and has been designated as a nationally registered cultural property. The bamboo grove, old pines, and flowers that change with the seasons in the garden are quite remarkable, and the atmosphere created by the nighttime lighting is also excellent.
The traditional Japanese cuisine, prepared with the region's rich ingredients and the chef's exquisite skills, is sure to whet your appetite. If you want to relax thoroughly, it is recommended to stay in a special room where you can leisurely enjoy a private outdoor bath while overlooking the garden.
