Established in 1191, this is the oldest ryokan in Arima Onsen, cherished by famous figures throughout history such as the renowned Heian period poet Fujiwara no Teika, the then Taikō Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Ito Hirobumi, Akiko Yosano, and Jun'ichirō Tanizaki. The hot spring is sourced from the famous Kinsen spring. Each guest room features unique partitions and designs, ranging from luxurious suites with direct access to the hot spring to standard rooms that overlook a karesansui (dry landscape) garden. There are also rooms where literary figures once stayed and wrote, allowing literary enthusiasts to reminisce about their past glory. The meals offered include "Yamaka cuisine," enjoyed by emperors and shoguns alike. The kaiseki cuisine showcases the flavors of seasonal ingredients, featuring carefully selected local delicacies such as Kobe beef sirloin, fresh fish from Akashi Port, and locally grown Goshō rice from Mikata District in Hyōgo Prefecture. Breakfast also includes tofu made from Tamba black soybeans and nori from the Sumaura sea area.
