🎎 YOSAKOI Soran Festival

📝 Introduction

Originating from the Yosakoi Festival, it is a dance festival in Sapporo that combines elements of the Hokkaido Sorachi Festival.

📖 Details

The YOSAKOI Soran Festival is held every June. It originated from the Yurai Festival in Kochi Prefecture, combining the "Naruko" used in the Yurai Festival with the Hokkaido folk song "Soran Bushi," evolving into Sapporo's most popular festival event. The rules of the YOSAKOI Soran Festival are simple: participants must hold Naruko and incorporate the melody of Soran Bushi into their music, while everything else is free for interpretation. This allows each participating team to showcase unique costumes and dances. The "ya-ren-so-ran" of Soran Bushi is a labor song sung by Hokkaido fishermen while catching herring, and the music resonates through the streets, energizing the spectators. The festival was originally held under the slogan "The street is the stage." Gradually, the number of participants from outside Hokkaido has increased, and it has now become a grand event with teams from around the world, regardless of nationality. As a symbol of early summer in Hokkaido, it attracts over 2 million spectators, making this vibrant event absolutely worth seeing.
