📜 Hotel Details

Shinboku Onsen Ryokan was established in the 10th year of the Bunsei era (1827) during the late Edo period. It is located near the fourth temple, Kinsyo-ji, in the Chichibu 34 Kannon pilgrimage area, and has historically operated as accommodation for healing pilgrims. Today, the original building from its founding is still in use, and the black-glossed beams and handrails evoke a sense of folk art. To preserve the old charm, no elevators are installed. The well-worn nightingale floor creaks, and sometimes you can hear other guests talking, but the atmosphere of this ancient pilgrimage inn provides a soothing experience for modern visitors. As part of the Chichibu Seven Springs, the Onsen of the Era has been carefully preserved through nine generations and features alkaline sulfur hot springs with a pH of 9.5. The smoothness of the hot spring, akin to a beauty serum, is also recommended for babies experiencing their first bath. The quality of the spring has received high praise, attracting many regular guests. All guest rooms are in the Japanese style, with three types available. The first floor rooms come with open-air hot spring baths, while the second floor offers one type with 12 tatami mats, attached bathroom, and a sunken kotatsu, and another type with 8 tatami mats and shared bathroom. These accommodations are recommended for travelers who wish to experience the history of the ryokan. Due to the lack of soundproofing, if you want to enjoy chatting or value privacy, it is advisable to choose a first-floor room with an open-air bath. The meals provided feature a sumptuous feast of local mountain delicacies from Chichibu. After breakfast, guests can also enjoy delicious, rich coffee brewed with mineral water.
