About Asakusa Kyukou
After visiting Senso-ji Temple, I took the opportunity to try some hot and crispy fried buns.
Details
Asakusa Kyukou was established in Showa 37 (1962) and is located on Nakamise Street, which leads to Senso-ji Temple after passing through the Kaminarimon Gate. The freshly fried, hot, and diverse range of fried buns makes it the perfect choice for a snack while strolling. The shop is always busy with long lines, as it is a popular spot.
The best-selling basic flavor fried bun uses domestically produced soybeans, perfectly paired with a mildly sweet red bean filling. Fried in a premium oil blend of three types, they are crispy on the outside and have a delightful chewy texture on the inside, making them irresistible. There are a total of 13 flavors, including sweet varieties like matcha and chestnut, as well as savory options that can be enjoyed as a meal, such as the "Monjayaki" flavor, which features a batter with seaweed and pickled ginger, and the "Curry" flavor made with minced meat.
The boxed products, which have a longer shelf life and are packaged in boxes adorned with illustrations of Senso-ji Temple, are popular souvenirs. They come in a standard pack of 6 and a mixed pack of 10 with 5 different flavors, offering a wide selection. If you want to taste them right away, the freshly fried buns for takeout are the best choice.
