The "Asakusa Samba Carnival Parade," held every summer, immerses the entire street in the frenzy of samba and is Japan's largest samba event. Each year, over 5,000 participants from across the country take part in a competitive parade featuring extravagant floats and authentic Rio-style costumes and dances, all vying for victory. It is a major event marking the end of summer in Asakusa.
The parade route stretches approximately 800 meters from Asakusa Station on Mado Street to Kaminarimon Street. Dancers dressed in vibrant and dazzling costumes showcase their passionate moves in sync with the lively samba rhythm.
What’s most worth watching at the Asakusa Samba Carnival is the impressive dance skills of the various teams! Dance teams from all over the country display their utmost efforts, ensuring a captivating performance. The competing teams are divided into several groups, with the top league, S1, changing annually based on their performance, motivating each team to give their all in pursuit of the championship.
After the mid-point of the parade, the strong teams that have qualified for the finals take the stage one after another. The stunning dance performances captivate over 500,000 tourists. The rhythmic dances are so engaging that even the audience can't help but join in and dance along on the street.
