🛍️ Daimaru Kyoto Store

📝 Introduction

A time-honored department store that gathers famous products from Kyoto.

📖 Details

Located in the bustling shopping district of "Karasuma" in Kyoto, this department store is renowned. Daimaru has a long history, dating back to the 2nd year of the Kyoho era (1717), when Shimomura Hikoemon opened a kimono shop called "Daimonjiya" in Fushimi, Kyoto. In 1912, the Kyoto store relocated to its current site and reopened in the form of a department store. It gathers a wide variety of high-quality products, ranging from clothing to groceries, beauty products, furniture and appliances, sports goods, stationery, jewelry, and gourmet food—there's something for everyone. Especially in the basement food hall, where traditional Kyoto shops and popular eateries gather, it is the top choice for purchasing souvenirs. In September 2023, the restaurant floor underwent a complete renovation for the first time in 50 years. It features popular stores such as "the first store in Western Japan" and "the first store in a commercial facility." Additionally, a newly established "Manga Wall" offers about 3,000 food-related manga for free reading. The newly renovated rooftop plaza "KOTOHOT Terrace" is equipped with warm and unique wooden furniture that can be freely arranged into large tables or used for relaxing and unwinding.
