Ekimachi Terrace Nagahama is a shopping center directly connected to JR "Nagahama" Station, featuring 21 stores including dining establishments. Planned by the Nagahama Living Culture Research Institute, it offers a variety of products focused on "Nagahama unique items" and "original creations." It includes specialty stores like the "Nagahama Life Notebook Store," which conveys the local lifestyle in a museum-like manner. On the first floor, there is a free-to-visit "Mini Biwa Lake Aquarium OSAKANALABO," where visitors can see fish and various aquatic life that inhabit Lake Biwa. The regular exhibits include about 100 fish of approximately 50 species, including the unique Lake Biwa species such as the rock catfish, the biwa trout, the biwa carp, the nagara carp, and the goro carp, which are also worth watching. Next to the OSAKANALABO aquarium is the "Tour Center," operated by the Nagahama Tourism Association, which opened in August 2021. This tourist information center provides insights into the history, culture, cuisine, specialties, and travel advice related to the Nagahama area. On the same floor, there is a blue street piano called "Forel 1," available for passersby to play freely. The third floor features an open outdoor space designed for children called "Green Terrace," which hosts various fun activities mainly on weekends. When no events are taking place, visitors can enjoy a relaxing moment in the semi-outdoor terrace seating area for free.
