๐ Shopping Details
The establishment dates back to the Taisho era and is a long-standing store located in Fuchu City, Tokyo. It originally started as a tailor shop specializing in making tabi (traditional Japanese socks) and work clothes for professional craftsmen.
Now run by the third generation, the shop takes orders for making festival happi coats and T-shirts, and sells tabi and waraji (straw sandals), making it an indispensable part of the Fuchu festival activities. The small store is filled with a dazzling array of products, from festival items to souvenirs primarily aimed at tourists, providing a unique enjoyment just by browsing.
Among tourists, the most popular items are storage bags or small tote bags made from tenugui (Japanese hand towels) featuring traditional Japanese patterns (starting from 1,180 yen). There are various designs and sizes available, including floral patterns, checkered patterns, and lion motifs. These Japanese-style souvenirs are quite popular among foreign tourists and international students. The rubber-soled waraji (starting from 1,080 yen), which can also be worn casually, is highly recommended.
In addition, there are also keychains with the characters for the "Kurayami Matsuri" (Darkness Festival) held annually at the Okunitama Shrine, printed on wooden plaques (200 yen), and T-shirts featuring the large taiko drum (starting from 2,500 yen), which are quintessentially Fuchu-style products suitable as souvenirs or gifts.
