Originating from the second year of the Tenpo era (1831), the long-established used clothing and cotton fabric store "Takashimaya" has a rich history. In 1912, it moved to its current location and transformed into a market center. The department store features a total of 8 floors, from basement level 1 to the 7th floor, gathering a wide array of high-quality products including trendy clothing, home decor, books, jewelry, sports goods, cosmetics, and food. In October 2023, a specialty store area named "T8" was opened. This space, themed around "art and culture," houses 51 shops, including the third official directly-operated store in Japan, "Nintendo KYOTO," a "SHARE LOUNGE" at "Tsutaya Bookstore" where one can relax alone, and "MANDARAKE Kyoto."
