🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
A post town that retains the atmosphere of the Edo period.
📖 Details
"Nakasendo" is one of the five major highways built during the Edo period to connect Kyoto and Edo. The 43rd post town along the Nakasendo is Magome-juku. This post town is built along a steep slope paved with stones, exuding the charm of the Edo period. Along the road, there are numerous shops selling traditional snacks from the Chubu region of Japan, such as "Gohei-mochi" and "Yaki-mochi" (Japanese: おやき), allowing visitors to eat while strolling.
Magome-juku is also well-known for its deep connection with the famous writer Shimazaki Toson, as it is located near the ruins of his birthplace, where the Toson Memorial Museum is situated. The museum showcases original manuscripts of works such as "Yoake Mae" (Before Dawn) and "Toho no Mon" (The Eastern Gate).
The waterwheel powered by the flowing water through Magome-juku, the stone-paved roads, and the observation deck with a view of Ena Mountain are all popular filming spots. Visitors can take commemorative photos here while reminiscing about the romantic history. Throughout the year, various events are held, including the "Ice and Snow Lantern Festival" and the "Magome-juku Festival."
