About Pen Village Workshop
The exhibition showcased information about the traditional craft "Kumano Fude" from Kumano Town, which has a history of about 180 years, along with a brush-making experience activity.
Details
The nationally renowned traditional craft "Kumano Brushes" boasts the highest production volume. Not only are there calligraphy brushes, but also makeup brushes that have received high praise from world-class makeup artists. At the "Brush Village Workshop," in addition to showcasing materials related to the history and culture of brush-making in Kumano Town, which spans approximately 180 years, there are also special exhibitions, experiences, and other activities that allow visitors to delve deeper into the charm of brushes.
The "Brush Master's House" within the facility hosts live demonstrations of brush-making by traditional craftsmen. This hands-on demonstration of the brush-making process sparks greater interest. Visitors can also participate in a brush-making experience, where they can personally engage in the "wrapping" and "shaping" processes (accepting reservations from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with a 60-minute experience duration, costing 3,500 yen). If you make a reservation one week in advance, you can even have your name engraved on the brush handle.
The facility also features a museum shop selling products related to the special exhibitions, as well as a Kumano brush boutique. The boutique offers around 1,500 types of calligraphy brushes, painting brushes, and makeup brushes, making it the perfect choice for purchasing souvenirs. Additionally, there is a café and restaurant, allowing visitors to leisurely explore throughout the day.
