🛍️ Nakano Broadway

📝 Introduction

It has garnered attention as a "subculture holy land"! A commercial building filled with various types of shops.

📖 Details

Opened in 1966, Nakano Broadway is Japan's first mixed-use building combining residential and commercial spaces. The five floors from the basement level to the fourth floor are primarily filled with stores catering to otaku culture, alongside shops selling trendy clothing, food, and gourmet items, totaling over 200 stores. At its opening, it featured a mix of shops from shopping streets and those related to subculture, but in the 1980s, it transformed into its current form due to certain circumstances. In 1980, the second-hand manga specialty store "MANDARAKE" opened, followed by various shops selling books, figurines, trading cards, and mini cars, all of which attracted a large number of otaku fans. Compared to the more diverse Akihabara, Nakano Broadway offers rarer products, earning it the title of "subculture holy land." In addition to subculture-related merchandise, it also houses over 20 high-end watch specialty stores, making it a prime battleground for luxury watch retailers and gaining significant recognition abroad. It has become a popular destination for many foreign tourists visiting Japan.
