📖 Details
Nara Sanjo-dori Shopping Street (Sanjo-dori) is an east-west street that runs through the central area of Nara City, connecting JR Kansai Main Line "Nara" Station with Nara Park and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. The Sanjo-dori Shopping Street stretches from JR "Nara" Station to the west of Kintetsu Nara Line's "Kintetsu Nara" Station, then extends north and south to Yasuragi Road. Along the approximately 500-meter-long street, there are about 100 shops, including restaurants, cafes, kimono stores, and specialty shops.
The entire shopping street is a pedestrian walkway that is wider than the driving road, beautifully maintained and easy to walk on. On Sundays and public holidays, the walkway is closed to vehicle traffic from 10 AM to 7 PM, becoming a pedestrian zone; during events such as the irregularly held "Kasuga Omotesando SUN DAYS PARK," artificial turf is laid out on the walkway, along with low tables, chairs, hammocks, and bead sofas, allowing visitors to sit and relax or enjoy takeout food in a comfortable setting.
