🎎 Night Cherry Blossom Noh (Yasukuni Shrine Noh Theatre)

📝 Introduction

Appreciate the elegant night cherry blossoms while enjoying traditional Japanese performing arts.

📖 Details

The Noh stage at Yasukuni Shrine is the oldest wooden Noh theater in Tokyo, hosting performances of night cherry blossoms and Japanese Noh during the peak cherry blossom season. This event, aimed at promoting and popularizing traditional Japanese performing arts, began in 1992. It has also become a gathering for important intangible cultural asset holders and young performance stars at the "Kagami-sei Shin-Noh" (meeting). *The 32nd event will be held in 2025. Noh is a general term that encompasses both Noh and Kyogen. Enjoying the cherry blossoms illuminated at night while watching a traditional art form that matured during the Muromachi period and has been passed down for over 600 years is a unique experience. The Noh theater, where the performances take place, was relocated to Yasukuni Shrine from the Shiba Noh Theater in Shiba Park in 1903 (Meiji 36). This historic stage has also become a cornerstone for the Noh revival during the Meiji period, hosting performances of Noh, Kyogen, and other dance pieces. Experiencing Noh while enjoying the night cherry blossoms creates unforgettable memories. First-time viewers are advised to rent an audio guide (available in Japanese and English, each for 800 yen).
