🎎 West Lake Ice and Snow Festival

📝 Introduction

A natural art festival featuring ice sculptures set against the backdrop of Mount Fuji in winter.

📖 Details

The ice and snow art festival, which began 30 years ago, is held every year from early to mid-March at the "Nishi Lake" next to "Nishi Lake Wild Bird Forest Park," one of the Fuji Five Lakes. In the clear winter air, visitors can admire various ice sculptures set against the backdrop of Mount Fuji, covered in a blanket of white snow. The production of ice sculptures begins in late November. Water is sprayed onto the bases of the various works inspired by Mount Fuji using hoses, and as temperatures drop at night, the water freezes and gradually expands. Among these sculptures, there are impressive pieces over 5 meters tall. After sunset, there is also a nighttime lighting event. The ice sculptures, illuminated by lights, emit a mysterious atmosphere that is different from the daytime. In February, the average high temperature around the Fuji Five Lakes is about 6°C, while the average low temperature is -6°C, making it very cold. Be sure to take precautions against the cold before heading out. Additionally, food trucks are set up at the venue on weekends and public holidays.
