🎎 Ohtani Yakiyaki Festival

📝 Introduction

A popular event where you can purchase Tokushima's specialty "Ootani-yaki" products at a more affordable price than usual.

📖 Details

In 2003, Ōtani-yaki from Naruto City was recognized as a national traditional craft. It is said to have originated around 1780 during the late Edo period, when a ceramic craftsman from Ōita Prefecture visited Ōtani Village and used the red clay from Kani Valley for production. Every year, on the second weekend of November, the Ōtani-yaki Kiln Festival is held. This festival, which has a history of over 200 years, features a sales event where various kilns offer Ōtani-yaki tableware, small bowls, and other items at more affordable prices than usual, along with an exhibition of renowned Ōtani-yaki ceramics. To this day, there are still several kilns in the area known as "Ōtani-yaki no Sato." Some of these kilns also offer pottery experiences, and arranging a walking tour of the kilns is a great option as well.
