Ryugetsu is a long-established dessert shop that was founded in 1947 in Tokachi, Obihiro, specializing in a fusion of Japanese and Western-style sweets. The signature product of Ryugetsu is "Sanporo." Initially, the shop only produced popsicles, but due to the overwhelming popularity of their popsicle flavors, they began creating Western-style desserts and Japanese-Western fusion sweets. The Sanporo, born from this history, not only boasts an excellent texture but also has been highly praised for its uniqueness and connection to Hokkaido's history. In fact, it won a gold medal at the 27th Monde Selection World Confectionery Competition in 1988. The product name is derived from the Hokkaido pioneer era, where trees were felled for land development, and the standard size of the cut timber was "Sanpō, six inches (approximately 18 centimeters)." Just like the Sanporo, which emits the light of a flame from a hearth, it embodies the hope of bringing healing moments for family reunions. Sanporo is a tree trunk-shaped cake made from a ring cake, with white chocolate and milk chocolate representing the texture of birch wood. With its moist cake texture and exclusive chocolate coating technique, it offers an elegant sweetness created by the interplay of the two types of chocolate. Its wood-like appearance and heartwarming deliciousness make it a favorite not only among tourists but also among locals as a delightful snack.
