About S-PAL Sendai
A shopping mall with a wide variety of popular products, gourmet food, and souvenirs! Directly accessible from Sendai Station.
Details
Sendai Station is the largest transportation hub in the Tohoku region, serving the Tohoku Shinkansen, JR local lines, Sendai Subway, and express buses. S-PAL Sendai is directly connected to Sendai Station and is a popular shopping mall among students, commuters, and tourists.
The main building adjacent to the southwest side of Sendai Station opened in 1978. Spanning four floors from basement level 1 to the 3rd floor above ground, it features over 200 stores offering trendy clothing, miscellaneous goods, and gourmet food. In 2008, "S-PAL II" opened on the 2nd floor north of Sendai Station, and in 2016, the "East Building," consisting of 6 floors above ground and 1 basement level, opened, making it a large commercial facility with more than 300 stores in total.
From the JR line underground ticket gate, you can access the basement level 1 of the main building "Station Underground Souvenir Shop" via the east-west underground passage, where you can find a variety of Sendai specialties such as fish cakes, beef tongue, and Japanese sweets. The shop offers traditional sweets transformed into the latest dessert trends, making it a great place to purchase souvenirs for various occasions. It is recommended to visit the 2nd floor of the East Building, "Date Alley," which features well-known specialty products from Tohoku. The restaurant street "Forest Restaurant" on the 3rd floor of the East Building, which serves unique ingredients from the Tohoku region, is also quite popular.
