About SOU・SOU Ise Cotton

Selling traditional crafts from Mie Prefecture, Ise Cotton, printed with popular patterns.

Details

"SOU・SOU" is a textile design brand from Kyoto, with the concept of "creating a new Japanese culture." It actively utilizes traditional materials and techniques, aiming to develop products suitable for modern lifestyles. The range of products sold is extensive, including split-toe socks, Japanese clothing, wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets), furniture, and more. In the "SOU・SOU Ise Cotton" store, hand towels made from traditional fabric from Mie, known as Ise cotton, are sold. Ise cotton has a history of over 250 years, dating back to the Edo period. The yarn used has a lower twist, which means that after washing, the fibers tend to revert to their cotton state, resulting in a fabric that becomes increasingly soft. Today, it is produced solely by the Mie textile company "Usui Orimono," making it a highly valuable textile. The fabric is sourced from Usui Orimono and then hand-dyed using traditional Kyo-Yuzens technique, with colors and designs that suit contemporary Japanese life, shaping the unique style of SOU・SOU. Next to SOU・SOU Ise Cotton, there are ten other SOU・SOU series stores that also sell children's jinbei (SOU/SOU warabegi) and small bags (SOU/SOU cloth bags) made from Ise cotton. Here, Ise cotton fabric (SOU・SOU dyed version) is also sold by weight, allowing customers to purchase it for creating their own unique items.
