🛍️ Takezasa-dō (Bamboo Leaf Hall)

📝 Introduction

Utilizing traditional woodblock printing techniques, we launched a highly popular line of fashionable paper stationery and goods.

📖 Details

Walking along the stone-paved path in the old street area of Shinkyogoku in the Shimogyo Ward of Kyoto, you will be greeted by charming lattice windows and a sign that reads "Woodblock Prints" on a warm curtain. The first floor houses a shop, while the second floor is a workshop, where woodblock prints and woodblock goods are sold. The establishment is run by "Takenaka Mokuhan," a long-established woodblock printing shop founded in 1891. The fifth-generation printer, Mr. Kenji Takenaka, has opened "Takesasado," where original works and paper stationery made by artisans are sold directly. The sixth-generation female printer, Ms. Harada, has created designs that blend tradition with fashion, attracting many female fans. Here, you can purchase a variety of works made by the artists, carvers, and printers who create woodblock prints. In a tatami space renovated from an old town house, a wide range of woodblock print products is displayed. From paper products like gift envelopes, book covers, and letter paper sets to miscellaneous goods such as handkerchiefs, cloths, and wrapping cloths, the variety of items is quite extensive. There are also framed woodblock print works that are perfect for home interior decoration. During the end of the year, there is a workshop for making woodblock print New Year cards. Those interested are encouraged to check the official website of Takesasado in advance.
