The dessert shop "甘黨茶屋" (Gandō Chaya), which opened in 1927, has six branches in Kyoto and is loved by both locals and tourists. Its soy sauce dumplings are the best-selling Kyoto souvenir. The Kiyomizu branch is located on Sannenzaka, next to the World Heritage site "清水寺" (Kiyomizu-dera). It is conveniently situated for those strolling near Kiyomizu-dera or "高台寺" (Kōdai-ji). The signature soy sauce dumplings can be purchased individually, and there are also combination meals that include options like white rice cakes with soybean flour and matcha warabi mochi. Additionally, there are refreshing desserts such as ice cream with chestnut, cream, and red beans, as well as summer-exclusive shaved ice topped with Uji Kintoki white rice cakes and matcha warabi mochi. In the cold winter, a bowl of white rice cake and red bean soup or seaweed-wrapped mochi dishes is perfect. The shop offers both table seating and tatami seating. Its exterior blends into the Kyoto streetscape, exuding a vintage charm that allows you to relax and unwind while enjoying delicious desserts.
