🎎 Wagashi Making Experience & Tea Ceremony Experience (Ishikawa Prefecture, Kanazawa City, Former Garden Residence)

📝 Introduction

Experience a tea ceremony while making traditional Japanese sweets by hand.

📖 Details

Kanazawa, along with Kyoto and Matsue in Shimane Prefecture, is known as one of Japan's three major cities for wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets). Since ancient times, the samurai have regarded the tea ceremony as a hobby, leading to the development of wagashi, which is essential in tea ceremonies. In Kanazawa, wagashi is an indispensable part of celebrations such as weddings or prayers for safe childbirth, with the highest consumption expenditure in the country. Among wagashi, the delicate beauty of a type called "nerikiri" stands out the most. Nerikiri is made by mixing "gyuhi," a type of mochi made from shiratama flour, into sweet red bean paste, creating a clay-like texture that allows for intricate shaping. This enables the creation of exquisite designs representing seasonal flowers, birds, and natural scenery. In the "Wagashi Making Experience & Tea Ceremony Experience," participants can enjoy the finished product they create after making nerikiri, and experience the tea ceremony in a traditional tea room. During the tea ceremony experience, participants can sit comfortably without the need for formal seiza posture, allowing beginners to relax and engage with the world of tea ceremony.
