🎨 Festival Gallery
📝 Introduction
With over ten thousand candles exuding a mysterious aura, the entire region is adorned, creating a summer spectacle in the ancient capital of Nara.
📖 Details
The Nara Tokae is a summer tradition in Nara, where the entire Nara Park is enveloped in warm, gentle candlelight during the event. The term "Tokae" refers to candles shaped like flower petals, symbolizing good fortune and auspiciousness. This event is designed to light candles as a blessing for visitors.
Tens of thousands of candles are distributed across major scenic spots. Among them is the "Floating Cloud Field," where the lawn is filled with candles, creating a beautiful scene reminiscent of the Milky Way; "Asagao no Hara," where candles are scattered among bamboo sculptures; "Sagi Ike," surrounded by candlelight, and "Fukime-do," radiating a golden glow nearby; and "Sarusawa Pond's Fifty-Two Sections," where dreamlike candlelight flickers on the water's surface. Interestingly, even the same candlelight presents different charming landscapes depending on the location. The solemn atmospheres of "Kofuku-ji," "Todai-ji," and "Kasuga-taisha" are also well worth seeing.
Take a stroll through the expansive 660-acre Nara Park while enjoying the enchanting scenery. You can also participate in the "One Guest, One Candle" (additional fee required) activity, where you can light your own candles.
