This competition is held in only three regions throughout Japan, including the "National Fireworks Competition (Hikkyoku Fireworks)" in Daisen City, Akita Prefecture, and the "Tsuchiura National Fireworks Competition" in Tsuchiura City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Yatsushiro City is the only fireworks competition venue in western Japan, making it not only the most representative fireworks event in Kyushu but also in all of western Japan. The launch site is located upstream of the Shin-Hagiwara Bridge in the Kumagawa River Green Space in Yatsushiro City, with a total of 14,000 fireworks. Numerous outstanding fireworks artisans present their magnificent displays, illuminating the autumn night sky of Yatsushiro. The competitive fireworks are divided into the 5-inch fireball group, the 10-inch fireball group, and the Starmine group. A total of 30 renowned fireworks artisans compete, coming from as far north as Akita and as far south as Kagoshima. Additionally, there are synchronized musical fireworks that offer a rich and exciting experience. The 38th event in 2025 also marks the 20th anniversary of Yatsushiro City's designation as a new city. The opening will feature a special Starmine fireworks display to kick off the festivities.
