🛍️ Zhu Niao Main Store

📝 Introduction

An original hand towel made with traditional techniques combined with avant-garde design.

📖 Details

Located in the so-called oldest shopping street in Nara, the "Mochi Hoden Center Street" is famous for being the entrance to Naramachi. This specialty store for tenugui (Japanese hand towels) features original designs inspired by the ancient capital of Nara, incorporating modern elements that are very popular among customers. The fabric used is of the highest quality, boasting excellent absorbency and quick-drying properties. It is crafted using intricately hand-carved Ise paper molds and dyed using the ancient traditional technique known as shibori (注染). The colors are vibrant both inside and out, and the longer it is used, the softer and more refined the texture becomes, showcasing the unique charm of shibori. The design style is bold, resembling a painting, breaking away from the conventional framework of ordinary tenugui. In addition to tenugui, the store also offers a variety of products that combine handkerchiefs, bags, shirts, and more. These items not only serve as everyday goods but also make perfect gifts for others.

⭐ Highlights

The vibrant colors inside and out are a hallmark of traditional dyeing techniques. Designs featuring deer and Buddha statues in the Nara style are particularly eye-catching. A variety of elegant miscellaneous goods combine practicality with aesthetics.
