📖 Eizan Cable Car / Aerial Cable Car 叡山ケーブル・ロープウェイ

From Yase in Kyoto, take the Eizan Cable Car, then transfer to the aerial tramway, enjoying the magnificent scenery along the way. In just 12 minutes, you will reach the summit of Mount Hiei. First, board the Eizan Cable Car at "Yase Station," which is pulled by a pulley system to ascend the steep slope in about 9 minutes. This steep slope has a vertical drop of 561 meters, making it the highest in Japan. Next, transfer to the aerial tramway halfway up the mountain, which travels 486 meters to the summit in about 3 minutes. During the ride, you can enjoy the stunning seasonal views of Mount Hiei's fresh greenery or autumn leaves, while also taking in the cityscape of Kyoto and enjoying the pleasure of walking in the air. At the transfer point on the mid-slope of Mount Hiei, there is a "Panorama Plaza" with excellent views. During the summer, the night cable car and aerial tramway offer breathtaking views of Kyoto's beautiful night scenery. In the plaza, there is a "Throwing Pottery" activity where visitors can write their wishes or prayers on pottery and throw them toward a target. Additionally, at the summit station of Mount Hiei, there is the "Hiei Garden Museum," an outdoor exhibition area showcasing reproductions of works by Impressionist painters such as Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh on ceramic panels. The bus that runs between Kyoto City and Otsu City in Shiga Prefecture, which takes you to "Enryaku-ji Temple" on Mount Hiei, is the best option for exploring Mount Hiei.

From Hieizan, enjoy the natural scenery while moving to the summit of Mount Hiei. The aerial cable car, which has the highest elevation difference in Japan, is quite impressive. There are viewing points and tourist facilities at both the mid-station and the summit station.
