About Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoden)

The popular train that runs between the ancient city of Kamakura and Enoshima.

Details

The official name is Enoshima Electric Railway, but it has long been nicknamed "Enoden." The train departs from Kamakura, passing through Hase, Shichirigahama, and then through Enoshima to Fujisawa. Along the way, there are many famous historical sites, and the sight of the train running is a signature view of the Shonan area. The train slowly runs close to the eaves of the houses along the line. Between "Inamuragasaki Station" and "Koshigoe Station," it runs along the coast, offering beautiful scenery outside the windows. The section from "Koshigoe Station" to "Enoshima Station" features a shared track for both trains and cars, and it is also the sharpest curve in Japanese railways. The train runs closely along the eaves of the houses, and the view from "Inamuragasaki Station" to "Koshigoe Station" is particularly stunning. It is recommended to take the Enoden train when heading to Enoshima to fully enjoy the scenery and atmosphere of Shonan. Trains speeding past the seaside level crossings frequently appear in movies, TV dramas, and animations set against the backdrop of Shonan, making them internationally renowned. The 1970s TV drama "Our Morning" was filmed at "Gokurakuji Station" and its surrounding areas, attracting a massive influx of fans and creating a huge sensation. Highlights

The "Nori-Ori-Kun" one-day pass, which allows for free boarding and alighting at any stop along the route and includes discount coupons for various facilities and temples, is very convenient. The red brick tunnel, which has a history of over a hundred years, is located between Gokurakuji Station and Hase Station. The train has a compact body, and some sections of the track are shared with tram-like tracks, but it is still classified as a regular railway under the law. All stations are equipped with barrier-free facilities, and all platforms are covered with roofs, making it unique in Japan.
